Those of you that know me know that I've been going on about Goe Oil for quite some time now!! I thought it might be useful for those of you who haven't tried any Jao Brand products for me to give you the low down.
I first stumbled across Goe Oil in a store in Boston in 2013. My brother Archie had been living all around the world and just moved to Cambridge with his then girlfriend, now wife, Emily, to study at Harvard.
Unsurprisingly I jumped on a plane at the first opportunity. I do love a good adventure and I hadn't been to America for too long. After a long catch up over some Ron Zacapa I got down to business. Emily and I like to trawl shops together so off we went to get some inspiration. I don't remember where we found it, but we were like magpies to the beautiful Jao packaging, it was the first thing I saw in the store.
Budgetary constraints meant I couldn't just buy the whole range so I chose the Goe Oil as it was the most multipurpose product. It only took hours for me to be hooked! Sadly Emily has a nut allergy so cannot use the Goe Oil. Damn you Kukuinut.
Anyway, back to subject. It took me a while to actually launch Blue Bowl, and one of the first things I was determined to stock was Goe Oil. Gale was so supportive and totally got the Blue Bowl idea. I've been selling her products ever since!
Jao Brand was an idea launched by Gale and her wonderful father, David, both pictured, who is a retired R&D chemist. They wanted to create natural multi purpose products that look and smell amazing. They deserve a huge round of applause as they totally hit the spot.
First up - Goe Oil. This amazing body oil can be used in a miriad of ways - see here for full list. I like to use it year round as a body oil, but it is especially useful when I go away. I throw a toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and a tube of Goe Oil in a suitcase with a bikini and off I go to the sunshine! It goes on my cuticles, in my hair, on my feet, even on my face. The one thing to remember is that if the oil isn't absorbing then you are using too much. Oh and that the oil melts in the heat, so don't pour the hole tube out in one go!
My new find is the Patio Oil, in moisture mist form! If the bugs come out to bite this is going to be your friend. Patio Oil has a wonderfully strong smell of lemon eucalyptus. It moisturises and cools as you use it, which is basically the opposite of any other bug repellent I've ever tried. I also gave some to a gardener friend who uses it as a hand cream. Again, hurrah for Gale and her quest for multipurpose products.
My great friend Chippy has done the Lip Balm reviewing for me. Needless to say she has it spot on, so head over to LMB to check out some more of her reviews.
Finally, the newest product in our armoury, Face Creme. It took me a while to try this as I like a SPF face cream and use Neal's Yard Beauty Sleep Concentrate religiously when I'm at home. I am totally of the opinion that beauty regimes should be thrown out of the window when travelling!
But how wrong I was. Jao Face Creme is the perfect compliment to my daily routine, and if it is sunny I just wack a bit of SPF on top. For those of us who are, ahem, the wrong side of 30 and occasionally like to sit up all night drinking rum and smoking cigarettes this cream is the bomb! They mean what they say - Anti Aging (SERIOUS) Moisture Repair. As Ron* and holidays go hand in hand I think this little puppy is going to be joining me on any future jaunts!!
Anyone wanting a Face Creme sample is welcome to get in touch with their address. All we ask is that you follow us on Instagram and/or Facebook so we can spread the word.
I should also mention that Gale just sent me a very limited amount of her new SPF tinted suncream Face Creme to try. It doesn't launch until 2018, but I'm pretty excited. The only thing that worries me is the 'tinted' aspect. It is is going to be a push for me as I haven't ever been known to wear more than a flick of mascara and bronzer, but I've been proved wrong once so I'll give anything she sends me a go! She also explained that it has to be tinted as the natural aspect of the SPF means the cream goes white. Tinted is most definitely better than white, unless you happen to be Burmese. The beautiful women use thanaka paste to keep their skin unharmed by the sun.
Finally, if anyone would like to see Blue Bowl stock any other Jao Brand products we are happy to do so. I don't have much use for Beard Balm so if you know it and love it and want us to stock something just shout!
*A quick aside - Ron means Rum in Spanish. It took my stupid English brain far too long to connect these too things, and assumed a lot of the hilarious rum makers had the first name Ron. Oh dear!
