This charming American woodcock print is taken from Mark Catesby's 'Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands', 1754, which is held in the Bodleian Libraries.
Named 'Cock of the American Woods' by Catesby, this bird has weird, wonderful feathers protruding from its neck!
Mark Catesby, a fellow of the Royal Society, spent seventeen years preparing his aforementioned book, which was the first natural history book to use folio-sized coloured plates.
The print comes with the pictured green mount. Frames can be organised on request.
