Vintage Green Glasses
This product is currently sold out.
Set of four bright green glasses.
This bright green glass has two names, either vaseline glass, or uranium glass. It was very popular in the 1920's. To confirm the uranium content you can shine UV light on the glass to confirm the characteristic green fluorescence.
The glass fell out of popularity in the 1940's due to the curtailment of widely available uranium!!
The nickname vaseline glass was given due to the popularity of the paler yellow version of this glass, there is actually no link.
Finally - is it dangerous to have about? No!
You can read up about safety concerns here, but the long and short of it is, yes, uranium glass emits radiation, but the amounts are tiny, infinitesimal, ridiculously small. Our bodies are subjected to many times more radiation every day from the sun and the earth we live on. It isn't even the radioactive element of the glass that makes it glow under UV light, even non radioactive uranium would do this. Hurrah for science!
These items are vintage and one of the tumblers has has two small chips as shown in the pictures. The remaining three are in perfect condition, not bad considering these were probably made in the 1920s.
Each glass measures 9cm tall by 8cm wide and has a wonderful ridged look to the glass.
They would go really well with one of our bright green jugs!
